So, you're thinking about joining a fraternity and you want to know if Pi Lambda Phi is right for you.
Get Out There and Rush
Fraternity Recruitment or "Rush" is a time for undergrads to evaluate the fraternities at their college or university. It's an exciting and enjoyable Greek Tradition - you meet people, make friends, and generally have fun. While you're having fun, take a moment to consider the ideas, ideals, and actions of the brothers of the fraternities you're rushing. Find the one that most closely fits your own philosophy and style. Perhaps, Pi Lam will be that fraternity.

Attain a Bid
During Rush, the fraternities will also be evaluating you for that potential "fit." If they see characteristics in you that suggest you'd make a good brother, they'll extend an invitation to join their fraternity, a "Bid." In particular, they'll be looking for:

• Attendance at their Functions - Do you show an interest in their fraternity?
• Personality and Character - Are you a fit with their style?
• Adaptability - How well will you adapt to the process of becoming a member of that community?
• Responsibility - Can you fulfill the duties and live up to the attendant responsibilities of brotherhood?
• Leadership - Will you be a positive respresentative on campus, or to newer members?
• Persistence - How committed are you to becoming a member? |
What happens after I decide to join?
After you accept your bid and rush is over, there is a ceremony where you are formally installed as a new member of the fraternity. This begins a probationary period, known as "pledging", where there is more time for both you and the Brotherhood to get to know each other even better. After the end of this pledge period, you will be initiated and become a Brother. |

What about pledging? I've heard fraternities do some scary things…
Every Brother was once a pledge. And there's no way that you can form a tight group of Brothers that respect one another if they were treated disrespectfully as pledges. But that's not to say that becoming a Brother is without work. Potential new members are expected to work hard to learn our Creed, our history, and our traditions. Pledges are also supported with study hall, Big Brothers, and have access to all the amenities of the House as do Brothers. The pledge semester is challenging, because nothing great was achieved without enthusiasm. But every Pi Lam you meet passed those challenges, and any man of character will too. |
